Are you ready to have a look at your wardrobe and take some steps towards making it more sustainable?
We are all about sustainable fashion and making sure we are constantly improving our brand to be in line with the slow fashion movement. It's really important to us so we thought it's probably important to you too, so we have compiled a few ways you can start to make your wardrobe more sustainable.
1. Be informed
Do your homework and check out brands' ethos before you purchase from them. You can check them out on social media or go straight to their website and make sure your buying from a brand that aligns with your values.
2. Invest in trans-seasonal clothing
Buy items that you know you will wear year round. That means classic dresses and timeless jackets or separates, the capsule wardrobe. Check out our How to Winterise your wardrobe blog to find out more.
3. Look after your clothes
It sounds obvious, but if you buy good quality clothes then you're going to want to look after them. Wash less and read the care instructions- sometimes just an air out even does the trick, and always hang your garments properly, so as to take the weight off the fabric.
4. The thirty wears test
This one is simple, if you don't think your going to wear it thirty times, then don't buy it! Choose versatile pieces that you can style in different ways.
5. Donate or re sell unwanted items
This is a great way to keep your wardrobe updated...one out, one in. It's also a great way to obtain new pieces, pre loved is pretty much one of the most sustainable ways to lessen your impact on the earth.
6. Go for quality over quantity
It may cost you more but it's about changing your mindset...better to buy 10-20 great quality sustainable pieces per year, rather than 40-60 cheaper products. This will dramatically change your carbon foot print.
6. Learn how to repair clothing or find a good tailor
Sometimes it's something that can be easily fixed like a dropped hem, or a small tear that can be sewn up or easily mended by a tailor. It can be a lot cheaper to fix something than to buy a new one.
7. Change the way you spend money
Spend your investment cash on something that you will get a lot or wear out of. Instead of splashing out on a statement piece or a one wear evening gown- purchase that piece that is good quality, it may be more expensive but you are only going to buy a few per year. That way after a few seasons you will have acquired sustainable wardrobe to be proud of.
Making your wardrobe is all about mindset and educating yourself, so go to your wardrobe and see what changes you can start to make.
