Woman with impact

Bridget
Bell

Bridget Bell believes style is a way of coming home to yourself—quietly, confidently, and on your own terms. As the founder of Style Ambition, she brings over two decades of experience in fashion, but it’s her work beyond the spotlight that defines her impact. After years of styling high-profile clients, Bridget felt called to something more meaningful: helping women reconnect with who they are through what they wear.

Through a deeply personal and intuitive approach, she works with women navigating change, creating wardrobes that feel effortless, aligned, and entirely their own. Her philosophy is simple, yet transformative—nothing about you needs fixing, only a style that truly reflects you.

In this conversation, Bridget shares her journey through fashion, her perspective on midlife and body confidence, and why style can be such a powerful tool for self-acceptance.

"In midlife, many women become highly focused on the changes in their bodies, often comparing themselves to their younger selves. But this stage is really about shifting that mindset."

Every woman is on her own journey, and it’s about embracing that and expressing yourself in a way that feels true to you.

Q&A with Bridget

What first inspired you to pursue a career in fashion and styling, and how has your journey evolved over the past 20+ years?

I’ve always been a creative person, drawn more to creating than academics. Growing up, I loved the outdoors but also spent hours sewing with my mum, creating clothes and experimenting with fabrics. That early exposure sparked my passion and led me to study a diploma in fashion design and textiles after school.

Over the past 20+ years, my journey has evolved in ways I never expected. Combining my background in fashion design with styling has become my superpower, giving me a deep understanding of fabrics, cuts and textures. My work across styling and TV has also shaped my ability to connect with people, building skills in communication, confidence and even reading body language.

You work closely with women in midlife — what shifts do you see in how women relate to their bodies and style at this stage of life?

In midlife, many women become highly focused on the changes in their bodies, often comparing themselves to their younger selves. But this stage is really about shifting that mindset — celebrating who you are today, not who you were.

I also see a powerful shift where many women care less about others’ opinions, which is incredibly freeing. Every woman is on her own journey, and it’s about embracing that and expressing yourself in a way that feels true to you.

How has your own relationship with style and confidence evolved over time?

My relationship with style and confidence has evolved in a really personal way. I’ve stepped more into my feminine side, which didn’t always feel natural to me before, and that’s been a big shift in my identity.

Working with clients constantly inspires me — I find myself reflecting on my own wardrobe, applying the same principles I teach. It’s an ongoing process, but I’ve never felt more confident or more put together, and that feels incredibly exciting.

When a woman feels disconnected from her style, what is the first step you encourage her to take?

The first step is to pause and reconnect with where you are right now — your body, your lifestyle and how you want to feel.

So often, women are holding onto pieces from a past version of themselves, which creates that sense of disconnect. I encourage starting with awareness: what fits, what doesn’t, and what truly reflects you today. From there, we can rebuild a wardrobe that feels aligned, effortless and confidence-boosting.

What do you value most in Australian fashion today — and where do you think the industry still falls short?

What I value most in Australian fashion today is the growing recognition that the average woman is a size 16, and the shift toward more inclusive sizing. I also love the move toward ethical, sustainable fashion — with more women choosing quality, timeless pieces over fast, throwaway trends.

Where the industry still falls short is in fast fashion. We’re still producing far too much, and there needs to be more accountability around that. Sizing consistency is another challenge — while there have been improvements like petite ranges, there’s still a long way to go in creating standards that truly cater to all body shapes.
